"I'm inspired by our customers and staff every day," says Michael. "Helping customers is what we have focused on since my grandfather founded this business in 1926. Our customers inspire us to provide them with solutions, service and products that will help them fulfill the vision for their project. Our Creative Lighting family is made up of hardworking people, many of whom have worked here for years and years. I am always inspired, and very appreciative of the level of knowledge, expertise, and the solutions they provide our customers."
Michael is the president and co-owner of Creative Lighting and has been involved in lighting since 1977. After a long time in the industry, he is still intrigued by how decorative lighting continues to evolve in ways that he would never have thought just a few years ago. He is happily married for almost 30 years and the proud father of two daughters. His eldest daughter works for the New York Times in New York, and his youngest is a student at Southern Illinois University.
Tami has 10 years of experience in the lighting industry and has been with Creative Lighting for 8 years. She enjoys projects where she can utilize her skills to help pick both functional and decorative lighting. The challenge of lighting a space and balancing recessed, task, and accent lighting with decorative fixtures is something she enjoys tackling. Tami, originally from central Wisconsin, is married with 2 teenage children. She also coaches cheerleading at a local high school and enjoys singing.
Katie works in Creative Lighting's Pro Division and brings 11 years of experience as well as an interior design degree from Minnesota State University - Mankato. Katie is inspired with any project in which sculptural, contemporary lighting can be utilized to creat unique space. Originally from Iowa, Katie has lived in Minneapolis for 13 years and enjoys watching movies, music, fashion and painting in her free time.
"I am most inspired by clients who think outside the box and are open to design advise," states Noel, who has been lighting homes for 20 years. Noel also specializes in outdoor and landscape lighting as an owner of N Design Partners, a landscape lighting firm providing design and product services. Noel, who was born in the Midwest, now splits his residence between St. Paul, MN and Palm Springs, CA.
David has worked as in interior decorator for over 15 years and now over the past year he brings his practical design sensibility to the world of lighting. He can often be heard saying, "My goal is to help you find the perfect lighting solution that will compliment your home and your furnishings!" He is interested in learning about you and what you hope to accomplish with your lighting plan and the overall feel you want to create in your home. David is very excited with the trend towards more unique and contrasting specialty finishes and patinas in lighting. As well as the trend towards a more personal expression of your individual style through your lighting and design scheme.
Holly comes to Creative Lighting with two years of lighting and design experience. Her favorite part of the industry involves keeping up with the ever-changing trends in LED technology and educating customers on how to incorporate these trends within their lighting project. She loves getting to know her clients dreams for their space, and helping to turn them into reality. When asked what she enjoys most about her job Holly responded, "I love that no project is ever the same, which allows me to be creative with every client, making each project unique." Holly's hobbies include being outdoors, baking and watching reality television…probably more than she should.
"I am inspired by anything that gets me thinking outside the box," explains Tara. "I love taking a risk visually; playing with placement, color and scale to accomplish something unexpected and unique." Tara, a 12 year industry professional, sees the trend in lighting is anything LED. She is excited to see how the technology is evolving and the efficiency and longevity that it is providing. Tara currently lives in South St. Paul with her husband, David, and sons, Roddick (5 years) and Greyson (3 years). She enjoys running, gardening and traveling up north with her family.

Jonathan has been married for more than 40 years, and has 2 grown children. Jim has spent his entire career serving builders, electricians, architects and interior designers in the Twin Cities market. He enjoys running, biking, golfing and relaxing with his family.
It has been fascinating to follow the evolution of LED lighting over the last decade. It started out as a purely utilitarian light source with very unreliable quality, but has now found a strong place in decorative lighting," says Kyndra, who has been in the lighting industry since 2003. Educated in interior design and architecture Kyndra enjoys working on a project from the design phase through installation. "Helping a client to design a functional and aesthetically pleasing space that meets their needs is very fulfilling.
"I like the variety I am faced with everyday and enjoy when a whole project comes together and the customer is excited to have their vision completed," explains Brenda, who has been working at Creative Lighting for 20 years. As a veteran of the lighting industry and interior designer, Brenda sees simple lines and efficiency in the forefront. A Badger alumnus, Brenda is the mother of two children, ages 7 and 10.
"I enjoy any project that involves problem solving, especially with clients who are willing to think outside of the box and look at options they might not have considered on their own. The move towards energy efficiency, sustainability and environmentally friendly options is really exciting. I am also inspired by the creative vision and level of craftsmanship I see in the world of lighting fixtures. The combination of science, technology and art drew me to photography and landscape design – this is another step along that path." Hilary comes to our team with 21 years of professional photography and five years of landscape design experience. She is excited to utilize her expertise and unique perspective on the design side of lighting.
Hilary and her husband Eric live on the bluffs in East Saint Paul with their cat Mia, and dog Rin. She loves to cook and appreciates the bounty of fresh, local food we have access to here in Minnesota. She continues to explore the world through photography, focusing on her neighborhood and nearby parks.
"I believe the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. I enjoy being able to visualize the things others have trouble seeing. It is always a pleasure when you can help someone bring their dream to a reality," states Sepia. Her work experience in the field of art serves as a fantastic bridge to success in the lighting industry. “My background as an art teacher and mother of two amazing children has shown me that no single approach is the right one for every person, so I handle every situation with an open mind, patience, and the will to listen and help.” She continues by stating, “Lighting has been a great adventure. It is exciting the way it changes constantly. It is very innovative, and can really set the tone or tell a story within your space. I think it is phenomenal that you can make a statement without having to say a word, and I love that everyday brings unique experiences by having such diverse clients with a wide variety of styles and interests."
Sepia’s hobbies include refurbishing furniture, painting, drawing, cooking, and a ton of dancing.
"Projects that are as functional as they are beautiful inspire me. I also love the challenge of working to find solutions for a very specific style or application," notes Jennifer of Creative Lighting. She is looking forward to watching how lighting evolves as energy efficient regulations start to impact lighting designs. Jennifer has a degree in Interior Design and lives in Cokato with her husband, son, and two dogs. She enjoys spending time with family, camping and spending time outside as much as possible.
A Tradition of Quality
Creative Lighting was founded by my grandfather in 1926. My Brother and I took over the business from our father in 1983. After over 80 years in the business we have an understanding of the lighting field that many people, especially those in a superstore just don't have.

Whether it's lighting a whole house, just a single fixture, or finding ways to brighten up the exterior of your home, we take pride in giving superior service. There are many ideas and options-that's why we're here to help. Our knowledgeable sales staff can help you make the best selections to meet all your lighting needs. If you should have a problem, our customer service department will be able to rectify the situation quickly and to your satisfaction.
We guarantee a low price, just as we have for 80 years. If you find it advertised for less, we'll match it!
If you're happy ... we're happy. We'll work hard to make your lighting purchase a positive experience. Our hope is that you and your friends and associates will visit Creative Lighting whenever you have a lighting need. If there is something that would make your experience at Creative Lighting better - please let a member of the staff know!
Plenty of Inventory
Our showroom and warehouse are filled with fixtures. We understand how delays wreak havoc with building schedules, so if you are placing an order for your entire house, or a single room, we can usually give you immediate delivery - without compromising your design (or budget) decisions.
No Hassle Return and Exchange Policy
We want to make sure you're happy. If you are unsatisfied with any Creative Lighting product for any reason, we are pleased to accept your returns. However, please note the following:
Give us a call and we'll arrange a meeting in our St. Paul store with one of our trained design consultants. They'll be happy to help you define your lighting needs and offer suggestions on how to accomplish the best design for your space. Our consultants can work off blueprints for a whole home plan, or help design a single room in your home.
If you just want to have a look at the newest fixtures to get some ideas, stop by anytime! To ensure delivery of your fixtures, plan to visit Creative Lighting at least eight weeks before your move in date.
When in the store, don't hesitate to ask for me. I'm in most days and my door is always open. I look forward to meeting you!
